University of the East Chorale
A rich full-bodied timbre, a distinct blend of youthfulness and maturity of sound, innovative programming, versatility, and the ever present desire to premiere works of Filipino composers in the international stage — these are some of the characteristics that catapulted the University of the East Chorale to the ranks of internationally-acclaimed choral virtuosos. Since the group was handled by Ms. Anna Tabita Abeleda-Piquero in 1999, it has gone a long way from just a simple university glee club to a choir par excellance. The ensemble has joined countless competitions, both locally and abroad. It has brought the Philippines the distinct honor as the only choir to win the Grand Prix two years in a row in the Busan International Choral Festival in South Korea, in 2006 and 2007. Prior to that, the group, fresh from inception, had already captured the heart of Europe when they concertized and won top prizes in various competitions in 2003, most notable in Austria and Italy, where the group competed for the chance to represent the region in the European Grand Prix for Chorale Music. After this very successful concert tour, the group went back to Europe in 2004 to win the First prize in the Pop/Jazz Category in Concorso in Gorizia, Italy.
In 2008, the group embarked on its 3rd European Concert Tour and brought home the following awards:
